The Alberta Library opposes libel suit

March 26, 2013 The Alberta Library opposes libel suit The Alberta Library’s Executive Committee has passed a motion strongly supporting the positions taken by the Association of Research Libraries, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries and the Canadian Library Association urging Edwin Mellen Press founder Herbert Richardson to discontinue legal action against McMaster University librarian Dale Askey. The legal action followed comments Askey made on his blog in 2010 when he was a librarian at Kansas State University. “Our members feel it is important to express support for Mr. Askey to uphold the principles of freedom of speech and intellectual freedom,” says TAL CEO Clive Maishment. “We join other library organizations in taking a stand against this legal action.”
